"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."   Margaret Mead
    Dear Friend,
A framed print of the above quote by Margaret Mead hangs on the wall of the HMA office in Independence, MO.   It's the small group of thoughtful, generous donors that makes the gifts of health possible through the programs of Health Ministries Association.
Healthcare Education to Indigenous Candidates
In 2019 HMA was able to provide scholarships to five Auxiliary Nursing students and one medical student in Honduras. Educating Healthcare professionals in Central America has a huge impact on the quality of life of many who have limited or no access to healthcare. All 2020 Scholarship applications are reviewed in January. The Scholarship Fund and interest earned
from the Joan Pratt Healthcare Education Endowment     Medical Student Alma funds the scholarships.

The Honduras Rural Healthcare Program
January 2020 begins the fourth year of this program that supports a clinic in La Boquita and several rural villages with healthcare, medicine, and education through the skills of Professional Nurse Saira Giron. Saira will perform over 3000 patient exams this year, as well as serving as camp nurse for church gatherings at La Buena Fe. This program costs $2000/mo. for salary, medicines, supplies, and gas & maintenance for the truck needed to reach the villages. We have donations and pledges for the first six months of 2020. We need your help to raise the necessary funds for the second half of 2020.

Where Needed Most

 Help fund our annual
Health & Spirituality Workshop. The 2019 Workshop piloted streaming to a few participants. In 2020 we will offer streaming nationwide. The Workshop, scheduled for August 22, 2020, will focus on domestic abuse: recognition, remediation, and resources. Look for more details in spring 2020.

Also support HMA's periodic
Health Briefs that go out to our subscribers as either emails or in a format suitable for bulletin inserts. These Health Briefs are available at no charge to individuals, congregations, and mission centers.

Please give to the program(s) that speak to your heart or give a general gift that can be applied where needed.
